DOING THE WILL OF THE LORD

The apostle Paul wrote to the Galatians how easily one can deceive himself by thinking that one can mock God. We read in Galatians 6:7, "Be not deceived; God is not mocked; for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting." No one will ever be able to mock God, for God is omniscient, knowing all things that we say and do.

This same thought is found in Matthew 7:24-27. In this passage of scripture the Lord is, in fact, also dealing with self-deception. Here we find the Lord describing the man who hears His words and does them versus the man who hears His words but does not obey them. The idea here is whether a house will stand the test of time or not. This would depend on the kind of foundation on which the house was built. If the foundation were strong, then the house would stand when the rains and the floods come; but if the foundation were weak, then the house would fall. So it is with all who hear the words of the Lord and obey them or obey them not.

In our lives, we also will have the storms of trials and temptations come our way. Whether we shall overcome or fall will depend on whether we are striving to do or not to do the will of God. If we are striving to do the will of God, then we shall have the strength to stand no matter what life might send our way; but if we are not striving to do the will of God, then when trials and temptations come our way, we shall fall. Where do you find yourself?
