REMEMBERING ALWAYS OUR CREATOR
In the book of Ecclesiastes, there is a very important verse which needs to be read by every member of humanity. It is in chapter 12, verse 1, that we read the following: "Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw night, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them." It is a known fact that among us all there are some who will learn from other people's experiences and advice, while others must go through an experience themselves before they learn anything. King Solomon was hoping one of his sons would be the kind of person who could learn from another person's experience in this case King Solomon himself. King Solomon had been blessed with so much wealth that he was able, in a sense, to experiment with life in a way no one has been able to do since. Because of King Solomon's wealth, he was able to do almost anything his heart desired. He was able to learn from all fields of study and obtain knowledge of many different things. He was able to build great systems of irrigation to water his remarkable orchards and vineyards. He was able to hear some of the most talented musicians of his time and drink some of the most expensive wine, and enjoy almost any pleasure his heart desired. Yet, at the end of the book of Ecclesiastes, his advice was, "Remember thy creator in the days of thy youth." What did King Solomon want all of us to understand about life and the responsibilities that come with it? Solomon wanted us to understand that none of us have the right to do as we please with the life that has been given to us, as we sojourn in this world. We all have the responsibility to never forget the One who gave us life in the first place. Why is it so important for all of us to remember our Creator? Because life will stand still for no man. Time is forever slipping away, and so is our youth, our strength, our energy, and our opportunity to do the will of God in this world. As we grow older, we are not able to do as much as we once did. With the coming of years upon our bodies, our eyes cannot see as well, our ears do not hear as well, our feet cannot walk as well, and our energy is not as great as it used to be. Let us always remember our Creator while we are still able to do for Him as much as possible. |
