THE 4 ACADEMIC DIVISIONS

The curriculum is separated into four academic divisions. These divisions are totally integrated to fashion one of the most extensive and thorough Bible programs to be offered anywhere:

BE

THE DIVISION OF BIBLE EXPOSITION is designed to equip students to comprehend the English Bible by developing skill in inductive, deductive, verse-by-verse Bible study. Students will learn to apply the principles and methods of interpretation to the biblical text so as to understand the Truth of God’s Word. Also, the student is shown how to relate the content of the Bible to their lives as they seek to make a personal application of revealed Truth. The Division of Bible Exposition is the core of our curriculum at Southwest.

BS

The purpose of THE DIVISION OF BIBLE STUDIES is to equip the student with the knowledge and discernment necessary to do accurate exegetical work in the Old and New Testaments. In order to accomplish this purpose an emphasis is placed in the areas of Bible Interpretation (Hermeneutics); Biblical Languages (Hebrew and Greek); Bible Geography and Archaeology: Church and Restoration History, as well as Principles of Guidance I & II. This division also includes structured courses in Personal Development.

BD

The purpose of THE DIVISION OF BIBLE DOCTRINE & APOLOGETICS is to introduce students to the great teachings of Scripture in an organized, analytic and systematic manner. Teachings such as the New Testament Church; The Doctrine of Prophecy (Eschatology) and Apologetics will be studied in depth. The Apologetics sequence at Southwest is one of the most comprehensive such courses of study anywhere. The following required Apologetics courses are offered: Christian Evidences, The Messiahship of Jesus, Christianity vs. Secular Philosophy. Also, two courses will be offered entitled Christian Doctrine, which will serve to introduce the student to the field of basic Christian teaching.

BP

The purpose of THE DIVISION OF BIBLICAL PREACHING is to equip men to communicate biblical truth as Expository Preachers; to prepare men for service as Gospel Preachers, and to assist the student in doing the work of an Evangelist. The offerings in Expository Preaching are at the introductory, intermediate and advanced levels with attention being given to Classical Rhetoric.

"In my opinion, church leaders owe a debt of thanks to the elders of the Southwest church of Christ for having the vision and leadership to establish a school that has become a great force for truth. The name Southwest School of Bible Studies is synonymous with soundness and faithfulness to the Bible."
